Japan and Canada share strong educational and cultural ties.

    ビザの取得方法

Japan is visa-exempt, so a Japanese passport holder flies on an electronic travel authorization rather than a visitor visa, and when a study permit is approved from outside Canada the linked travel document is issued automatically. Japan was not part of the Student Direct Stream.

Beyond tuition, a study-permit applicant must show living-cost funds. For applications made on or after 1 September 2026, a single applicant outside Quebec must show CAD 23,448 for a year, rising to CAD 29,192 for two people and CAD 35,888 for three, separate from tuition and travel.

Canada and Japan also run a youth-mobility arrangement, but for Japanese youth it offers only a Working Holiday work permit, which is a separate programme from the study permit and not a K-12 enrolment route.

    通貨と支払い方法

The Japanese yen is freely convertible. Japan's Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Act is built on a principle of free foreign-exchange transactions, so a family can convert yen and remit tuition to a Canadian school through a bank without prior approval or a per-person annual currency-purchase quota.

Large transfers carry a reporting duty rather than a restriction: a payment between a resident and a non-resident above the equivalent of 30 million yen must be reported, and the Bank of Japan compiles these for the Ministry of Finance. A single tuition payment falls well below that threshold.

    エージェントの動向

Japan has an established study-abroad (ryugaku) sector with its own industry body, the Japan Association of Overseas Studies (JAOS), founded in 1991, which publishes guidelines to prevent malpractice by agencies and runs a certified-counsellor programme.

A separate body, the Japan Commission for the Regulation of Overseas Study Services (J-CROSS), certifies agencies against standards covering contracts, disclosures, cancellation terms, advertising accuracy and financial stability, and publishes the list of certified companies. Both are industry organisations, so their certification is self-regulation rather than a government licence.

    家族が選ぶ都市

In the 2021 census, about 129,000 people in Canada reported Japanese origin. The two largest communities are in the Vancouver area (about 38,900) and the Toronto area (about 27,300), together just over half the national total, ahead of Calgary (about 8,500) and Montreal (about 5,900).

The community is proportionally more concentrated around Vancouver (about 1.5 percent of the area's people) than Toronto (about 0.4 percent). Both areas are in British Columbia and Ontario, the two provinces that hold most private schools listed on MapleRank.

    Japanからのカナダ留学

Citizens of Japan need an electronic travel authorization (eTA) to fly to Canada, and a study permit for any program longer than six months.
